Bungalow renovation
Crifty Craft Lane
A bungalow renonation, creating a open plan living space, utility/pantry and tv snug.

The Requirement
The bunglow had a dated deisgn and the client was considering a costly loft conversion to try and free up space downstairs. The design team at Dajon got to work reconfiguring the existing space to meet the needs of teh client.
"We wanted to completely change how the ground floor of our home worked for us as a family. Before, the kitchen felt separate and quite closed off from the living space, so one of us was always cut off from the rest of the family when cooking. Taking down the wall between the kitchen and living room was really important to us so we could have one open, sociable space where we can all be together. Most of all, we wanted a space that works for real life: cooking while watching TV, chatting with friends at the island, keeping an eye on the kids, and having everything we need close to hand without it being on show. It now feels like one connected family space with a purpose for every area."
Our Solution
This project involved a full ground-floor reconfiguration to transform a series of disconnected rooms into a cohesive, multi-functional open-plan family space, with all building, installation, and finishing works carried out in-house. The primary objective was to improve flow, natural light, and day-to-day usability by removing the dividing wall between the existing kitchen and living room. Structural alterations were undertaken to safely open the space, creating a generous kitchen, dining, and family area centred around a new island. To further enhance the layout and allow for better zoning within the living area, the chimney breast was removed. This enabled a more efficient furniture arrangement and freed up valuable floor space, allowing the room to be reconfigured to suit modern family living. As part of the new layout, two additional rooms were formed: A dedicated TV snug, providing a comfortable and visually separate retreat for relaxing and screen use without impacting the main living space. A large walk-in pantry/utility room, designed to house laundry appliances, bulk storage, and small appliances, ensuring the main kitchen remains clean, uncluttered, and highly functional. The kitchen was redesigned to work with the new open-plan footprint, incorporating a large central island for seating, preparation, and social interaction, along with a full-height bank of tall cabinetry for integrated appliances and increased storage capacity. New flooring was installed throughout the entire ground floor to create a seamless visual connection between spaces and reinforce the open-plan concept.
